Native Skills Camp

If your child loves to build forts, make things with their hands, explore creeks and woods, and learn outdoors they will love Native Skills Camp.

While students are exploring, building, and working together on projects they will be immersed in the stories and knowledge of local natural history, California indigenous people, and ancestors from around the world who lived close to nature.

Students will be learning to meet our common human needs of shelter, water, fire, and food in simple and practical ways… without using knives or other modern conveniences.  Along the way they will be connecting directly with wild nature.

In these hands-on classes we will:
-build shelters
-practice awareness skills through games and quests
-learn native and non-native plants
-make tools from natural materials without
using metal knives
-explore our local natural ecosystems with
reverence and wonder.
(Scroll down for more info)

Students are expected to attend the full session of camp to get the most from this unique learning experience.
Each day builds on the learning and experiences of the previous days.

These camps are led by Mark Hay.
Mark created Native Skills Camp and has
been teaching them since 2005.
He has used the skills he teaches in real situations.

Coast Live Oak Native Skills Camps
are designed for children ages 7-14,

with special sessions for ages 10-14.
